Yayasan Bumiputera: Datuk Seri, son remanded
They will be investigated under Section 23 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.
A 'Datuk Seri' who is also the advisor to a property developer and his son, a "Datuk' have been remanded for six days to assist in the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) investigations into a land scandal involving Yayasan Bumiputra Pulau Pinang Bhd.
Magistrate Mohamad Amin Shahul Hamid granted the remand application against the duo, aged 74 and 47, effective today at the Georgetown Magistrate Court here.
Both suspects clad in the MACC orange lock-up shirts arrived at the court at about 10.50am.
The Datuk Seri was arrested at MACC Penang office while his son was arrested at the Putrajaya MACC office.
The duo were arrested at about 7pm Tuesday after they had come in to have their statements recorded.
The two were believed to have abused their positions and sold land owned by a subsidiary of the foundation at a lower price, without going through proper process and procedures.
Their action was believed to have cost millions of ringgit losses to the subsidiary since several years ago.
They will be investigated under Section 23 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.
