Yazid, Halimah claim trial to inciting terrorist acts

Former Internal Security Act (ISA) detainee Yazid Sufaat, 49, today claimed trial to inciting terrorist acts that “threatened the public in Syria”.
His acquaitance Halimah Hussein, 52, also claimed trial to the same charge.
High Court judge Kamardin Hashim fixed May 20 to 23 for trial.
Yazid was charged under Section 130G(a) of the Penal Code with inciting terrorist acts at a house in Ampang between August 1 and October 20 last year
The section provides for a maximum prison sentence of 30 years and a fine for inciting, promoting or soliciting property for the commission of terrorist acts.
Yazid was represented by lawyer Amir Hamzah while Halimah was represented by Datuk Yusof Zainal Abidin.
Yazid had been detained under ISA for seven years since December 2001 for alleged links with Jemaah Islamiah.
In the same proceedings, Kamardin also fixed Feb 25 to hear the habeas corpus application of cafe worker
Muhammad Hilmi Hasim, who was detained along with Yazid and Halimah on Feb 7.
