KUALA LUMPUR: The current challenging world of journalism requires young journalists who have patience and high commitment in carrying out their duties, said Communications and Multimedia Ministry (K-KOMM) secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohammad Mentek.
He said as future leaders in the industry, they must always be prepared for any eventuality as their job scope is unpredictable.
"For example, during the COVID-19 pandemic, journalists have to go to the field and were at risk of infection, in fact, some were also infected. In addition, during the major flood late last year, they had to go out to the field to gather and disseminate information.
"The job requires a high level of commitment, willingness to sacrifice, patience and sincerity," he said when met by reporters after checking on the preparations for the highlight of the National Journalists Day (HAWANA) 2022 celebrations at the Hatten Hotel, here today.
In addition, Mohammad said young reporters must ensure that every news report is accurate and the sources are credible and reliable.
Meanwhile, on the preparations for HAWANA 2022, he said everything was going smoothly but there were improvements needed in some areas before the event takes place tomorrow.
HAWANA, which is celebrated annually on May 29, is the recognition and appreciation from the government for media practitioners to honour their contributions in helping to develop the country and strengthen unity.
