Police detained a local youth for allegedly punching a Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) enforcement officer over a banner on cycling here Sunday.
The 10.15am incident was believed to have started when the victim and three colleagues were bringing down a banner inscribed with the words "Berbasikal, Kemudahan Awam Macam Sial DBKL Sibuk Sita Basikal" which was hung at the DBKL headquarters.
Dang Wangi police chief ACP Mohd Sukri Kaman said action was taken after initial warnings and calls to the youth and a group of 13 of his friends to remove the banner was ignored.
"While the victim and three colleagues were bringing the banner down, the suspect suddenly came up and punched the victim. The victim who was not seriously hurt managed to overpower the youth and later handed to the Dang Wangi police for investigation," he said when contacted.
Mohd Sukri said the 23-year-old suspect who did not have any previous records would be remanded and the case investigated under Section 353 of the Penal Code for obstructing a civil servant. -- Bernama
