Youth jailed 11 years for slashing elderly woman's ankle

A 19-year-old man was sentenced to 11 years jail by the Sessions Court here today for attempted murder of an elderly woman in a robbery ten days ago.
Judge Dazuki Ali handed down the sentence on Mohd Fikri Noor Rosland, 19, who pleaded guilty to the charge.
Mohd Fikri, the second of six siblings, was ordered to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest on June 19.
He was charged with committing the offence by slashing the left ankle of Mek Som Mat Diah, 89, with a knife at a house in Kampung Tanjung Rendang Lemal here at about 5 pm last June 19.
The offence, under Section 307 of the Penal Code, carries an imprisonment for up to 20 years, upon conviction.
The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Haslida Isamail, while Mohd Fikri was unrepresented.
