A high-speed car chase with the police pursuing a suspicious car ended with an 18-year-old youth shot in the shoulder in Taman Keladi here last night.
However, his two accomplices abandoned the car and left the injured youth behind in the 11.45pm incident, said Kuala Muda police chief ACP Khalil Ariffin.
He said the police earlier spotted a car in Taman Sejati Indah with three youths inside and ordered it to stop as it was believed to have been used in theft cases and armed robberies.
"However, it sped off and the police patrol team gave chase. In the chaotic pursuit, the police fired at the car which eventually came to a halt two kilometres away.
"Two men gave the police patrol team a slip. The injured youth, who was left behind, was admitted to the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital here," said Khalil.
He said the police seized several sharp objects, including machetes from the car.
A manhunt has been launched to track down the accomplices. Those with information are urged to contact the police.
