Zahid Hamidi denies audio recording of conversation with Anwar Ibrahim

KUALA LUMPUR: UMNO President, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, has denied that there was a conversation between him and PKR President, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, as spread on social media and reported by the media.
According to him, the alleged audio recording of the conversation between him and Anwar was a disgusting political ploy.
At the same time, Ahmad Zahid was disappointed and shocked by the latest allegations that was aimed to destroy UMNO.
In this regard, Ahmad Zahid has instructed his officers to lodge a police report so that an investigation can be carried out to identify the individual or party as the mastermind responsible for the audio.
"I strongly deny the existence of the conversation as in the audio recording.
“I want to emphasise that I did not have any conversation with Datuk Seri Anwar after the 2020 UMNO General Assembly (PAU 2020).
“This is an evil and disgusting political ploy that only confirms the continued efforts to weaken and destroy UMNO.
"I believe more vile games like this will be carried out to further belittle and destroy UMNO," Ahmad Zahid said in a statement on Wednesday.
Commenting further, the Member of Parliament for Bagan Datuk stressed that he as UMNO president will not violate or turn his back on the decision by the UMNO Supreme Working Council (MKT) and PAU 2020.
On Wednesday, a 4-minute-17-second audio recording between two individuals who allegedly resembled the voices of Anwar and Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had gone viral on social media.
In the audio recording, a voice similar to Anwar was heard praising Ahmad Zahid's winding-up speech at the UMNO General Assembly through a phone call.
