Bagan Datuk Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is worried about not getting the support of young outstation voters who may influence their parents in the villages to reject Barisan Nasional (BN) in the 14th General Election (PRU-14).
The Deputy Prime Minister said the outstation voters who registered in the parliamentary constituency might influence their parents to change their decision at the last minute.
"I am confident, the fishermen in the Bagan Datuk constituency who attend today will vote BN but I am not so confident in our children, our relatives, who reside in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Singapore and other cities.
"They register as voters in this parliamentary constituency, when they return to their kampung to vote, they may influence their parents until they become uncertain."
He said this in his speech during a Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM) function to hand over RM339,300 in cost of living allowance to 1,261 fishermen for Hilir Perak district in Hutan Melintang on Sunday.
Zahid also promised he would bring more development so long as he still received solid support from voters in the constituency.
"Our district was very backward, marginalised. I promise that if I get storng support, I will get more allocation to develop the district," he added. -- Bernama
