DUNGUN: The body of former National Sports Council (NSC) director-general Datuk Seri Zolkples Embong, who was found dead in his residence in Pandan Indah, Kuala Lumpur this morning, was safely buried at the Syed Yahya Muslim Cemetery here at 10.40 tonight.

The 62-year-old had held the post of NSC director-general from 2007 to 2014.

Other than family members, also present to pay their last respects were Terengganu Youth Development, Sports and Non-Governmental Organisation Committee chairman Wan Sukairi Wan Abdullah and NSC director-general Datuk Ahmad Shapawi Ismail.

Earlier, the body was taken to the Seri Petaling Mosque in Kuala Lumpur for funeral prayer before it was brought to his village in Kampung Gong Pasir here.

Zolkples was the chef de mission for the 2010 Asian Games, which saw Malaysian win nine gold medals in Guangzhou, China, thus making it the country's best-ever achievement in the Asiad.

Following that success, he was then made chef de mission for the 2012 London Paralympics.

Zolkples was also the chief executive officer of the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games organising committee.
