The government may revoke the permission for Zoo Negara to operate if visitors fail to comply with the prescribed standard operating procedure (SOP).
Senior Minister (Security Cluster), Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob warned that such action would be taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection among the visitors, especially children.
“The freedom granted does not mean that our people are free to do anything.
"I believe the zoo is a great place to bring kids for a weekend getaway but the SOP has to obeyed.
“The freedom given can be taken away if it can affect our health and life especially for our children who visit the zoo.
"So, this flexibility should be taken care of together because if there is a positive case of COVID-19 at the zoo due to our failure to comply with the SOP, the zoo may be closed again," he told a press conference here today.
Ismail Sabri added that he was informed by the Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador, that the Task Force Compliance Operations personnel were also sent to the National Zoo to monitor.
On Saturday, it was widely shared on social media that people visiting the National Zoo were seen not complying with the SOP.
