Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin on Sunday expressed concern with the action of some youths who do not value the meaning of Independence.
Instead they are chasing the materialistic world and also attracted by allure of technology, thus forget the struggles of our leaders who had battled and sacrificed to gain independence for the country.
"The spirit of patriotism is lacking among many youths. They must instill patriotism within themselves and be concerned with the affairs and history of the country because it is our country," he said after launching the state level Independence Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign at Dataran Tangkak, Sunday.
He said the young generation must correct the perception that the problems faced by the country was not their responsibility.
Mohamed Khaled said the reason for youths to lack patriotism was because they do have a strong fundamental foundation that would spur them to love their country.
"They reasoning is that our responsibility has not been fulfilled to embark on a vision together. They must understand that we belong to Malaysia and no other country. We are born, we grow, study, work and earn a living and build a family here. So, the love for the country must be in-born," he said.
