Merdeka parade at Dataran Merdeka to proceed

The parade and procession in conjunction with Merdeka Day at the Dataran Merdeka will go ahead on Aug 31, said Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek.

However, he said, other events scheduled to be held to commemorate the 57th Merdeka anniversary would be reorganised, readjusted or cancelled.

"There are many things that we have to change and readjust. InsyaAllah, we will get guidance from the Cabinet tomorrow and make an announcement later," he told reporters after attending the ministry's monthly assembly here today.

Ahmad Shabery said among the events that were cancelled were the Unity Harmony Concert scheduled for Aug 24 which would be replaced with a more appropriate programme.

Previously, he was reported to have said entertainment programmes in conjunction with the 57th Merdeka Day would be coordinated according to suitability and based on the guide following the Malaysia Airlines (MAS) Flight MH17 tragedy.
