18 Shah Alam PAS committee members resign

Eighteen members of the Shah Alam PAS divisional committee have resigned and are expected to join the Gerakan Harapan Baru, according to a statement.

They include its head, Azli Yusof; deputy head Zulkifli Mohd Nani; vice-head Mohamad Jamil Abd Rahim and youth head Helmi Radzuan, they said in the joint statement.

These PAS members emulated the PAS leaders in the Kota Raja, Klang and Kapar PAS divisional committees who resigned on Wednesday.

They said in the statement that their resignations were intended not to weaken PAS in Shah Alam, but for them to be part of the effort to champion Islam on a more credible platform.

"The resignations were officially announced at the Shah Alam PAS divisional meeting yesterday," they said in the statement sent through the WhatsApp application Thursday.

The Gerakan Harapan Baru has reportedly applied to be registered as a new political party.

Yesterday, Kota Raja MP Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud resigned as the Kota Raya PAS divisional vice-head with immediate effect.

Some 183 more officials of various levels, including its head, Jaafar Samsudin, also resigned.

Three Klang PAS divisional committee members and three Kapar PAS divisional committee members have also resigned.
