2020 UMNO general assembly postponed - Ahmad Maslan

Its secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, in a statement today, said that the UMNO divisional delegates' meetings have also been postponed.

"This postponement involves around 764 meetings, namely four delegates meetings for each of the 191 UMNO divisions nationwide. With so many gatherings involving tens of thousands of people, it would be likely to spread the COVID-19 pandemic further.

"The party management committee has unanimously agreed on this decision and has obtained majority approval from the members of the UMNO Supreme Working Council Committee through a circular resolution," he said.

Ahmad said that according to Clause 8.2 of the UMNO constitution, the annual general assembly should be held once a year, at any time set by the Supreme Council provided it is not later than 18 months from the date of the last assembly held.

"The 2019 UMNO General Assembly was held on Dec 6 and 7, and 18 months from that date is on June 5, 2021. Therefore, it is agreed that the divisional delegates' meetings will be held in March or April 2021, while the 2020 UMNO General Assembly is either in May or early June 2021. However, the date will be announced later," he said.

Meanwhile, Ahmad said that UMNO divisional committee members as well as the Wanita, Youth and Puteri wings were advised to hold various welfare activities for the people and the 'Ziarah Kasih' (visiting) those in need in their respective constituencies.

"All activities must comply with the COVID-19 standard operating procedures set by the government," he said.
