7 UMNO leaders being scrutinised, can be suspended - Ku Nan
Seven UMNO leaders are in the danger of being axed, party secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said today.
A committee is probing seven UMNO leaders who may face suspension if found to have gone against the party and its constitution, said party secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.
If found guilty, the seven will also have their positions taken away, Tengku Adnan told reporters at Parliament lobby today.
He said the committee is scrutinising the matter at UMNO headquarters and once concluded, it would present its report to the party's presidential council and disciplinary board.
Tengku Adnan however, refused to disclose the identities of the seven leaders.
"But I think the seven people know who they are and maybe you reporters also know who they are,"he told reporters.
"We can't take all this sort of nonsense anymore. If you don't believe in the party struggle, you leave the party," he said.
Tengku Adnan also refused to confirm if former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is among the seven being probed.
He said the party had its own constitution and code of ethics which all members must adhere to.
On Oct 5, Tengku Adnan said "six or seven" UMNO leaders are being monitored as they are seen as trying to bad-mouth the party and government.
"If action must be taken against them, we will submit an investigation paper to the Disciplinary Board as we do not have the power to impose any action against them," he said.
He had also urged Dr Mahathir not to meddle in the government's administration of the country.
"Dr Mahathir is finished (retired)... enough is enough. Let the government resolve the problems. However, I respect his views.
