Parti Keadilan Rakyat election director, Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail viewed the leadership of Sarawak Chief Minister, Tan Sri Adenan Satem as ‘a new broom’ that will bring sweeping changes in the state.
The reference was made following the perception that Adenan’s administration is relatively good, compared to that of his predecessor.
Saifuddin, however said the advantage that Adenan possesses will eventually falter given the fact that he has failed create political stability in the ruling party.
“The ‘new broom’ is akin to someone -- who after he succeeded a certain role – whatever he does is viewed respectable in the eyes of the ‘rakyat’.
The perception will not last as it needs to be translated into a certain move in how he leads.
“Firstly, good governance must be addressed. Secondly, whether he is capable or vice versa, Adnan must be able to solve the land management issue which has been brought to court openly.
“Thirdly, is the issue pertaining the infrastructure in Sarawak – which has yet to be resolved – for as long as Sarawak joined the Federation of Malaysia,” said Saifuddin when contacted by Astro AWANI, Sunday.
Saifuddin was responding to PAS election director Datuk Mustafa Ali who claimed that it was still difficult for the opposition to topple Barisan Nasional (BN) at the 11th state elections in April.
Saifuddin also added that Adenan must also able to solve the issue pertaining to Sarawak’s income which need to be fairly returned to the rakyat, in order for him to shine further as a leader.
Opposition’s challenges to overcome ‘perception battle’ among the 'rakyat' in Sarawak
Politics is a battle in overcoming the rakyat’s perception and the first test for the oppositions to double the comparison effort between perception and present reality, said Saifuddin, matter-of-factly.
“We can focus on what is happening and the political instability or stability in the ruling party when Adenan Satem came into office. The answer is an obvious no.
“There are two splinter parties in the Sarawak BN component party – which saw the formation of Parti Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak (TERAS) and Parti Rakyat Bersatu Sarawak (SUPP) splinter which saw the birth of Parti Rakyat Bersatu (UPP).
‘The formation of these two splinter parties are unacceptable by Sarawak BN and this is proof to show the rakyat in Sarawak,” he added.
