PAS central committee member Khalid Samad slammed Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob for saying that the party president's post need not be contested.

Khalid said Ahmad's statement had contradicted Abdul Hadi's readiness to be challenged at the party elections this year if the contest had the support of the party members.

"Ahmad's statement seems to indicate that Abdul Hadi receives no support from PAS members," he told reporters at the Shah Alam PAS annual general meeting, here Sunday.

On Saturday, Ahmad said he wanted Abdul Hadi to be retained as PAS president because he was capable of performing well in any situation.

Khalid, who is also Shah Alam MP, said PAS members should be given the opportunity to choose preferred candidates for the post, in line with the party's constitution.
