Ahmad Yakob to take over as acting PAS spiritual leader

Datuk Ahmad Yakob will take the responsibility as the acting PAS spiritual leader following the death of Datuk Dr Haron Din on Friday.

PAS President Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said, the task will be carried out by Ahmad until a new appointment is made by the Syura Ulama Council.

He said, previously, Ahmad who is also the deputy spiritual leader has also been taking over Haron's duties when he was undergoing treatment.

"His deputy, Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob, will carry out the responsibility for the time being until his term expires.

"In fact, he has already started doing the job," Hadi said to reporters after an event in relation the Private Member's Bill here yesterday.

The selection of PAS spiritual leader is done by the Council once every five years.

Last year, Haron took over from the late Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat who passed away in February.
