Former Langkawi Wanita UMNO member Anina Saadudin today withdrew the originating summons she filed against UMNO secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor and two others in regard to her expulsion from the party.
Her lawyer Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla said the case was no longer an issue and merely academic as she had joined another party, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia.
"The High Court also ordered Anina to pay RM2,000 costs to the defendants," he said after case management in chambers before judicial commissioner Datuk Roslan Abu Bakar.
Lawyer Nor Hazira Abu Haiyan represented Tengku Adnan and UMNO executive secretary Datuk Ab Rauf Yusoh who are the second and third defendants.
Mohamed Haniff Khatri mentioned on behalf of the Malaysian government which was named as first defendant.
On June 3, Anina filed the suit seeking a declaration that Section 18C of the Societies Act 1966 was null and void and contravened Article 5 and Article 8 of the Federal Constitution.
She also contended that Clause 20.7 of the UMNO Constitution which provides for expulsion of members who take the party to court, was null and void as it contravened the same Article 5 and 8.
