Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has apologised to the Sultan of Selangor over his statement on the convention practised by the palace in the appointment of the Selangor Menteri Besar.
He said his statement was made based on his knowledge during his term with the Umno-Barisan Nasional government.
"I only said what I know to have happened from my time being in the Umno-Barisan Nasional government. If there was an error on my part, I apologise to the Selangor Sultan," The Star Online today quoted Anwar as saying.
Anwar's clarification was in response to a statement sent by the Selangor Palace earlier today which said the Opposition Leader had confused the public when he said it was convention for only one name to be submitted to the palace for the MB post.
The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah had issued the four-page statement through his private secretary Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani explaining the process of appointing a menteri besar dating back to when BN was administering Selangor.
