KUALA KANGSAR: After Tanjung Malim UMNO Division, the Kuala Kangsar UMNO Division has lodged a police report regarding several banners urging Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to step down as UMNO president.
Kuala Kangsar UMNO Division Head, Maslin Sham Razman, in denying that the banners were erected by his party, hoped the police could investigate the mastermind responsible.
“It is an irresponsible and heinous act aimed at damaging unity in UMNO, not only in Kuala Kangsar but UMNO throughout the country.
"So, I hope that other divisions or in other Parliament (constituencies) will also be careful with the actions of this group because it is expected that there may be one or two more similar incidents that will happen in the near future," he said.
He was speaking at a press conference after several UMNO division committee members lodged a police report at the Kuala Kangsar District Police Headquarters (IPD) here today.
The report was due to two red banners erected at Taman Lavender and Jalan Daeng Selili with the white text of 'Dato Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, please step down as UMNO president' and Kuala Kangsar UMNO Division written under it with the party logo.
However, the two banners were not erected in the Kuala Kangsar UMNO Division area, instead in the Padang Rengas UMNO Division area.
Maslin Sham did not rule out the possibility that the act was committed by the same persons or group based on the similarity of banners and ropes used in all locations in Kuala Kangsar and Tanjung Malim.
Earlier, the Tanjung Malim UMNO Division lodged a police report at the Muallim IPD in Slim River on Sunday night.
Its acting division head, Mohd Zaidi Aziz described the installation of a similar banner on the entrance sign to Felda Besout as a slander.
