Be bold, Muhyiddin tells UMNO members
He said such action should not be construed as going against the leadership.
UMNO deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has urged all UMNO leaders to be bold in voicing out their opinion on the country’s administration and party leadership.
He said UMNO leaders should not fear of the repercussion if they speak up.
Speaking at a press conference today, he said such action should not be construed as going against the leadership.
He also told UMNO members to be bold during party meetings and voice out if they felt they are right.
“Many are afraid of confronting, afraid of the repercussion and fear of being dropped or fired. To me, such things should not happen,” he said at a press conference with former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, here today.
“UMNO members must come forward, not rebelling but to voice out issues. I don't think we have to be fearful or worried,” he added.
The veteran leader however admitted that the Malay party prefers to suppress its emotions than voice it out.
"I am not instigating or provoking members,” he said.
Also present at the press conference were Barisan Nasional heavyweights Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal, Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, Tan Sri Sanusi Junid dan Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat.
Asked to comment on his intention of attending the press conference together with Tun M, the Pagoh MP said he agreed with the former premier's views.
“I have confidence in what Tun M says. I hold to the principle of justice. Although I still hold position in the party, it does not stop me especially when it involves the interest of the people,” he added.
The press conference which took place at Perdana Leadership Foundation was called over the detention of former UMNO Batu Kawan division deputy chief Datuk Seri Khairuddin Abu Hassan and lawyer Matthias Chang.
