The tactful approach by Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders in managing diversity in Malaysia has not only become evidence of lasting peace and harmony in the country, but also a role model for other countries said Sabah Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan.
He said BN leaders used the uniqueness of a peaceful multi-racial society in the country as an opportunity to highlight Malaysia at the international level.
"In other countries, a multi-racial society can cause conflicts but in our country, it is not a threat, but rather an opportunity, we are not fragmented although we have different cultures because we are united," he said.
Tawfiq, who is also Apas assemblyman was speaking at the Civil Patrol Programme involving the police, military and Taman Kinabutan Ria Voluntary Patrol Scheme (SRS) here, today.
He said people should remain confident of the Government's efforts to maintain peace under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Razak, and not be fooled by promises from opposition leaders who have not proven themselves.
In the meantime, he said the civil patrol programme initiated by the government was to ensure the welfare of the people in the surrounding area and prevent them from becoming victims of crime. - BERNAMA
