All UMNO and Barisan Nasional leaders in Sabah must go to the ground to meet party members and the people, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman.
Musa, who is also state BN chairman and UMNO Liaison Committee chairman, said the measure was important and should be continued as the party's strength and struggle was dependent on the undivided support of the grassroots.
He said good relations between party leadership and members as well as the people would help pave the way when facing the general election.
"When the people are confident that Sabah UMNO looks after them, they would appreciate our leadership in turn.
"So go down to the people now and not just during election time to check on their needs and wellbeing," he said when opening the Putatan UMNO division delegates meeting here today.
Also present was Putatan UMNO division chief Datuk Seri Yahya Hussin, who is also Sabah Deputy Chief Minister.
Musa said if UMNO and BN leaders, especially the elected representatives were working hard, there was no need to feel threatened if a certain group wanted to set up a new party.
However, Musa said party leaders and members should continue to focus on the struggle for the people and maintain UMNO and BN's good track record in development and fending for the people in the state.
He also called on all UMNO members to stand united behind the party's leadership led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
"The party president is an institution which should be defended. The strength of the president is the strength of the party. If there is a problem, solve it quickly so as not drag on," he said.
