Barisan Nasional (BN) is seen as still relevant in Sarawak, based on support for the ruling coalition from the people of various races and ages.
UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said from his recent visit to Sarawak, he observed the people's good level of acceptance of Barisan Nasional (BN) and the leadership of Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem.
"I don't like the words (fixed) deposit (to refer to Sarawak) but I believe the state will always ensure that BN is relevant in Sarawak," he said when asked whether Sarawak would continue to be BN's fixed deposit in the upcoming state election.
He was met by reporters at the Sembrong parliamentary constituency's Chinese New Year celebration at Sin Yu Lee Restaurant in Paloh, here, today.
Hishammuddin, who is also Sembrong Member of Parliament, said the Sarawak chief minister's good leadership was at a high level.
"This is important to prove that whatever attacks made against our party, ultimately the people are the ones who will decide...the majority of the people.
"Not those who make a lot of noise, not those who like to point the accusing finger, and not those who are always on the social media, but it's the people who will determine the rise and fall of our party," he said.
Therefore, Hishammuddin said, it was important for the leadership of the BN component parties in Sarawak to continue to have wisdom, understanding and equity in drawing up strategies in the run-up to the state election.
"Firstly, there must be understanding and meticulous planning among the BN component parties in Sarawak and secondly, they must be united in ensuring victory for our candidates," he added.
Hishammuddin said hopefully, the wisdom, fairness and similarities that had existed for so long in BN could be translated into the distribution of seats for the upcoming state election.
