Datuk Seri Najib Razak said Barisan Nasional (BN) has submitted part of its 14th General Election (GE14) list of candidates to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for screening.
The Prime Minister said the list of additional candidates would be submitted to the commission after he has made a decision on the matter.
"We already have the names of the candidates but have not yet reached the verification level and some of the names are in the hands of MACC,” he told reporters after chairing the UMNO Supreme Council Meeting at Menara Dato' Onn here last night.
Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is carrying out the duties of UMNO deputy president, vice president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor and Information chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
Najib said at present BN was the sole party to have submitted their list of candidates to be screened.
In the meantime, the UMNO president said the launch of the state-of-the art transportation system, MRT, success of the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games and the country’s Independence Day celebration had greatly given a positive momentum to the BN at the moment.
"But as always in politics we have to ensure the positive momentum is continued in time to come,” he said.
Commenting on the 2018 Budget tabling next month, Najib said it is expected to bring a positive impact on the mood of the people.
“The Supreme Council also provided certain proposals that I will study further such as those received from all quarters, including the people who gave suggestions (2018 Budget) to the government,” he said.
Najib said the government would also announce “something” for the tahfiz (religious) schools nationwide in the budget.
The Prime Minister said the fire incident at the Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah tahfiz centre in Jalan Keramat Hujung on Sept 14 had received the attention of the supreme council members at tonight’s meeting.
"The supreme council hopes the government will take firm action in placing importance on the safety of students...other matters such as curriculum and so on can be taken into account later,” he said.
In another development, he said UMNO would make the UMNO General Assembly from Dec 5-9 as a lively gathering and to receive a positive response.
He said the management committee chaired by Ahmad Zahid would provide various programmes during the general assembly.
