Barisan Nasional has expressed its unanimous support for Sultan Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah’s decision to retain Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim as Menteri Besar of Selangor.

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said that the federal government welcomes the announcement by Abdul Khalid that he will continue to serve the people in Selangor.

Muhyiddin said that the continuity of Abdul Khalid as the MB is important for the welfare of the people of Selangor.

For example, in an effort to overcome water shortages in Selangor, the federal government needs a leader who will be able to ensure the smooth implementation of the projects agreed upon previously.

“I have spoken to the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak who is currently overseas to get his reaction on our (Barisan Nasional) direction. I have to mention here that due to some policies, the reasons and principles of BN support Abdul Khalid to continue being Selangor’s Menteri Besar.

“We do not see the rationale of Pakatan Rakyat’s decision to change the leadership in Selangor.  What’s important is the continuity of leadership, the fate of the people in Selangor and the crisis could jeapordise not only Selangor but the Federal Territory and Malaysia as a country,” he said after the Cabinet Committee meeting on tourism in Putrajaya today.

Muhyiddin views the leadership transformation in Selangor has its affect on the efforts implemented by the federal government to collaborate with the State government in seeking solutions on water shortages in areas around the Klang Valley.

“Our concern here is when there are statements made by some PR leaders who are unsupportive of Abdul Khalid’s vision in his promise that Selangor water deal will be reinstated and relooked if Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail will succeed Abdul Khalid as the state’s MB,” he added.

The situation later will have a huge impact to the people in Selangor apart from causing unnecessary problems to the welfare of its people.

“Our support is unconditional and sincere. If you ask what we will gain in the end, we get nothing. We just want to see the situation in Selangor to be stabilised and most importantly, the emphasis of BN at federal level is that the 12 Excos (BN) to continue supporting Abdul Khalid if there is vote of no confidence made against him," said Muhyiddin.
