BN wins unopposed in 2 constituencies
The two seats, Bukit Sari and Bukit Kota, were won by incumbents Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan and Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, respectively.
Barisan Nasional won two seats unopposed when nominations for the 11th Sarawak state election closed at 10 am today.
The two seats, Bukit Sari and Bukit Kota, were won by incumbents Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan and Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, respectively.
Election Commission chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Hashim Abdullah announced this in a press conference at the EC office here.
For Awang Tengah, who is PBB senior vice president, it was also his second uncontested victory. He took the constituency then known as Lawas in the 7th state election in 1996.
The constituency was renamed Bukit Sari in 2006 following an electoral redelineation.
Awang Tengah who was state Public Utilities Minister and state Industrial Development Minister before the dissolution of the state legislative assembly on April 11, had represented Lawas for four terms - 1987, 1991, 1996 and 2001, and Bukit Sari for two terms, in 2006 and 2011.
In 2011, he defeated PKR's Japar Suyut with a 5,063-vote majority.
For Dr Abdul Rahman, it is his third win in Bukit Kota since 2006. During the 2011 state election, he trounced DAP candidate Leong Kwang Yew and two independents, Usop Jidin and Ladis Pandin by a majority of 5,061 votes.
