UMNO member should view Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz's call requesting former Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to contest Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in Pekan’s election as 'bold'.

Batu Kawan UMNO vice-president, Datuk Seri Khairuddin Abu Hassan said, if Nazri had really wanted the PM to contest Dr Mahathir, it should be done in a neutral ground.

“Nazri should have self-reflection and look himself in the mirror. Don’t talk like a Standard Three pupil. Who is Nazri to challenge Dr Mahathir contest in Pekan?

“Don’t be too arrogant, please. Nazri appears to have forgotten history when Najib was almost defeated in Pekan not too long ago. I’d like to suggest to Nazri to ask from Dr Mahathir and Najib to contest in neutral ground,” he said when contacted by Astro AWANI, here today.

Khairuddin was commenting on Nazri’s statement, which was published in a daily newspaper challenging Dr Mahathir to contest Najib in an election in Pekan, to further solidify his strength.

“Dr Mahathir can defeat Najib in a general election instead of toppling him (PM). I don’t know how much support Dr Mahathir has gained but one must take into account that Najib had successfully retained his seat in Pekan in the last 10 generation elections.

“UMNO leaders who had opposed Najib can also compete for the party’s presidential seat in the next election,” said Nazri, as quoted in the article.

Khairuddin also stressed that Nazri is seen to be giving a lot of problems to UMNO Pulau Pinang, so much so he is now seen as a liability if he remains in the party.

“We have struggled and fought against the DAP-led State government and h had never done anything much.

“And today, he wants Dr Mahathir to challenge Najib in Pekan. He is seen as ruining UMNO rather than strengthening the party,” he said.

In a latest posting on khairuddinhassan.blogspot.com, Khairuddin had disputed a move by a TV
Network which allegedly used DAP vice-president, Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim as a medium to criticise Dr Mahathir in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) issue.

“As chairman of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), he should no dabble in any political chats. He should act as neutral body and be fair to all quarters.

“In the broadcast, Tunku Aziz appeared to be defending 1MDB. MACC itself has not started probing the 1MDB case and has not been concluded yet even after a report was lodged not too long ago.

“Did it ever cross his mind that a statement seen to be indirectly or directly supports 1MDB will give a negative impact to MACC’s credibility in its investigation? It is worrying especially when the rakyat themselves have the tendency to reject MACC’s initial investigation as its chairman himself is fully supporting it,” he explained.
