Cost of living among issues to dominate UMNO General Assembly

The Umno headquarters has received 755 resolutions from 191 Umno divisions throughout the country which included 638 resolutions for reference, 117 resolutions without debate while no resolution was rejected.

Umno Vice President Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said 121 resolutions were on education, 87 political, 81 constitutional amendments, 74 religious, 67 economic related, 170 social and 38 other issues.

Among the issues which were expected to dominate the Umno General Assembly this time is expected to be 'cost of living', education, the status of the Malays and Bumiputera, the sanctity of Islam, amendments to the party's constitution and the Sedition Act.

The round-table conference to be held tomorrow would discuss in detail the resolutions from the grassroots which would be debated at the assembly, Hishammuddin said at a press conference here Tuesday.

The Umno General Assembly 2014 will be held from Nov 25 to 29.

Hishammuddin said the Resolution Preparing Committee of the Umno Supreme Council's Working Council had formed a special team to handle the resolutions proposed by all the divisions.

He said the special team would go through the resolutions for further action by the ministry, department and government agencies concerned.

Hishammuddin said this was an improvement to ensure that immediate action was taken on the resolutions put forward by the grassroots.

"This is our way of being more inclusive and democratic," he said.
