KUALA LUMPUR:Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today expressed regret that he is being blamed for the COVID-19 situation in the country.

In a Facebook post, the Pekan Member of Parliament said he did not expect anyone to blame him for the increase in COVID-19 cases, which neared 6,000 yesterday.

He said, among others, people are blaming him for not giving proper advice to the Government, that he tried to be a 'hero' and wanted to blame Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

"The person who warned that home quarantine for foreign visitors will trigger a new wave of COVID-19 infections, (it was) Najib. Those who did agree to dissolve the Sabah State Assembly and the State Election being held, Najib.

"Who said to maintain strict control and block (entry of people from Sabah) into Peninsular Malaysia after the state elections, when the government told us to calm down and claimed the situation was under control, Najib," he added.

Najib said he also previously criticised the Government's move to allow interstate travel and to ease Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) as COVID-19 cases rose.

"The one who was pushing to increase the quarantine period to 14 days (but not implemented by the government) at a time when the UK variant infection is getting more serious is Najib.

"Najib told the government to take firm action when the COVID case reached 100,000 (but that was not done by the government)," he added.

Najib said he also called the Government to implement strict Movement Control Order (MCO) for two weeks.

"After the implementation of a 'half-cooked' MCO 2.0 for the last 17 days, it still failed. New cases reached 5,700 cases and the number of cases exceeded 200,000"

"Najib is still wrong because he did not advise the government?" he questioned.
