KUALA LUMPUR: Perak DAP's willingness to cooperate with UMNO to form a stable government proves that the party is not anti-Malay and anti-Islam, said Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming.
The decision, he said, was made by DAP after taking into account the situation in Perak where no party has a majority to form a stable government following the fall of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government last Friday.
"On December 4, 2020, Perak DAP has decided to work with UMNO to form a multi-racial government that is clean, strong and stable," he said in a statement on Tuesday.
Apart from that, Nga said the willingness to cooperate also reflects the great soul of the party which is willing to put the well-being of the people as the main agenda compared to the party.
"A written agreement needs to be signed if the proposal for this cooperation is agreed by all.
"It should also be emphasised that DAP will not compromise on corrupt practices or irregularities in matters of administrative integrity," he said.
Nga at the same time stressed that the Perak DAP would not join the new state government without the Pakatan Harapan component partners, namely Amanah and PKR.
His statement, however, raises the question of the composition of the coalition of parties that will form the new government of Perak.
UMNO President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said UMNO wanted the new Perak government to be created in collaboration with Bersatu and PAS.
"I have stated as much as possible that we defend the Perikatan Nasional agreement, meaning the cooperation to form this (Perak) government is between UMNO, Bersatu and also PAS," he said after an audience with the Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah at Istana Kinta on Tuesday.
