Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali said the decision reached at the recent PAS muktamar or general assembly (to sever ties with DAP) should be respected by all quarters as the muktamar was the party's highest decision-making body.
"It was the decision made by the highest decision-making body, as is the practice of all political parties.
"In PKR, whatever decision made at its congress is the final decision, likewise at its convention for the DAP," he told reporters after handing out a cheque for the sponsoring of phase three of the Hijrah Selangor programme at Universiti Selangor (Unisel), here, today.
He was earlier asked to comment on DAP veteran leader Lim Kit Siang as saying in his blog: "I agree with several PAS MPs that PAS Muktamar's decision to cut ties with DAP is final as PAS Muktamar is the highest decision-making body and there is no complaint that the resolution violates any Islamic law or hukum."
Azmin welcomes Pasma's proposal for a new political party
Lim's statement came after PAS at its 61st Annual Muktamar (General Assembly) recently, decided for the party to cut ties with DAP.
On the formation of a new party as proposed by Persatuan Ummah Sejahtera Malaysia (Pasma), Azmin who is also Selangor Menteri Besar, said it should accept a common policy framework agreed upon by all partners in Pakatan Rakyat.
"In a democratic system, anyone can form a political party or non-governmental organisation. However, if Pasma wishes to be with Pakatan Rakyat, it should accept the pact's common policy," he said.
Yesterday, Pasma suggested that a new political party be set up to replace PAS in Pakatan Rakyat, after the PAS 61st Annual Muktamar accepted without debate, the motion for the Islamist party to sever its ties with DAP.
