Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is said to have sacrificed Mohd Azmin Ali as the candidate for Selangor MB
Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is said to have contacted several PKR Selangor branch chairmen asking them to issue statements in support of his wife as the state’s next Menteri Besar.
Sources say that he had also asked the branch chairmen to also issue statement, urging the current MB, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim to resign.
This has incurred the wrath of many who see it as a means to save Anwar and his family.
According to sources in the party, Anwar is also in the midst of convincing the state’s leadership council (MPN) to issue a similar statement and pressure Abdul Khalid to resign.
Anwar had last week rejected the MPN’s suggestion to name party deputy president Mohd Azmin Ali as the MB candidate.
“Anwar is desperate for the MPN to throw its support behind Dr Wan Azizah as it has not issued or shown any form of support for her,” the source said.
“The political bureau which met two days ago had only ended with the discussion on the mecha-nism in getting rid of Abdul Khalid,” the source added when contacted by Astro AWANI.
The source said Anwar had ‘sacrificed’Azmin as the candidate for Selangor MB even though the majority of Pakatan Rakyat leaders agreed to it as Abdul Khalid did not want Azmin Ali to replace him.
On Monday, PKR secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail had denied reports that the party will name Mohd Azmin as the the Selangor MB candidate.
Saifuddin had said that PKR does not have any other candidate for the position apart from Dr Wan Azizah.
However, Mohd Azmin had in his Twitter said that should have referred to him first before issuing the statement and urged him to be careful with his choice of words.
