KUALA LUMPUR :Any UMNO member who puts the interests of other political parties first, can be subjected to disciplinary action, including being expelled from the party, said UMNO Advisory Council Chairman Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah.

The Gua Musang Member of Parliament said action could also be taken against the party's top leadership if it was true that some of them took such an approach.

“For me, as voiced by many UMNO members at the lower level, the attitude shown by the UMNO leadership is as if he does not respect UMNO's struggle.

“Wanting to put the leadership of other parties first. Why? So, if this is their real attitude, they should be taken action to an extent they can be discarded from the party if they do not fight for the party's interests, " he said in a recent interview.

Tengku Razaleigh said it was not appropriate to prioritise the interests of the opposition, especially Pakatan Harapan, while UMNO has all these while disagreed with their policies.

He said, at present, it was up to the party members who have the awareness to reprimand the UMNO leadership, especially in returning to the real path of struggle.

“Must the leadership from the opposition be given precedence and be supported by us? (Whereas we do not agree with their policies).

"It is up to them to have a strong attitude to fight for the party's struggle itself. If they think we do not have a direction, as the needs and demands of the party and the Malays as a whole, then it is up to the members to be aware of and to act," he said.

And the action, he added, can be taken on anyone, including the main UMNO leadership.
