Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir called on all quarters to not disturb the post of UMNO deputy president held by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as he was elected to the post.
Mukhriz, who is also Kedah UMNO liaison chairman, said the UMNO deputy president's post is not the same as deputy prime minister, who is appointed by the prime minister.
As such, he said, it was not appropriate for some quarters to ask for Muhyiddin to be dropped from his current post as UMNO deputy president.
"Maintain Muhyiddin as UMNO deputy president. he contributes alot to the party," he said when opening the Jerlun UMNO Youth delegates meeting here today.
Mukhriz, who is Jerlun UMNO division leader, said it was the prerogative of the prime minister to appoint or drop anyone from the cabinet.
