Don't betray us, Abdul Hadi tells allies
PAS urged its PKR and DAP to not betray the cooperation and understanding it has built within the coalition.
PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said the party never once turned its back on its allies, adding that any decision pertaining to the coalition should be carried out based on mutual agreement and understanding.
“Throughout the history of PAS, we have never betrayed an ally. We ask that they do the same to us too, he said in his keynote address at PAS 60th Muktamar (annual congress) here today.
“As a major political party, any big plans must be decided together before they are implemented," he said.
Abdul Hadi also reminded party members and leaders that the cooperation with its allies should be capitalised -- for the greater glory of PAS. He also reiterated that the coalition is to be strengthened PAS and not weakened.
“It will be unfortunate if this cooperation has led to certain parties undermining us, causing havoc and fighting among ourselves.”
Political cooperation, he added, does not mean that the party is to sing the same 'tune' as its allies, to the extent that it loses its fundamental values.
“The objective of our victory must be used to reinforce the principles of Islam that is the syumuliyyah.
“Our struggle must be firm and strong because it hinges on the aqidah tauhid,” said Abdul Hadi.
PAS has been criticised by its coalition partners in Pakatan Rakyat over its stand on the Selangor Menteri Besar issue plaguing the state.
The Islamist party is opposed to PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail’s nomination for the MB post despite receiving the support from allies, PKR and DAP.
Abdul Hadi also denied rumours that PAS might join UMNO.
