Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today lambasted the opposition who were prone to linking him to all sorts of negative issues that were happening in the country.
The UMNO President said he was blamed for all kinds of mistakes, with stories which had purposely been created by the opposition to instigate the people, including several murder cases.
"Even in cases of people I did not know, Altantuya (Shariibuu) they said I was involved. If I was involved, never mind the police, my wife would have done something. Even though I had taken a vow in the mosque, the story still keeps coming up, but there is no evidence at all.
"I was also said to be involved in the Kevin Morais murder case. Then, there is the story of the ring. After that, they said they were joking, but as the saying goes, the damage is done," he said when winding-up the debate at the end of the 2016 UMNO General Assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre here today.
Mongolian model Altantuya Shaariibuu was murdered in 2006, while Deputy Public Prosecutor Datuk Anthony Kevin Morais was murdered and his body was stuffed into a drum which was cemented on Sept 4, 2015.
Najib also questioned the actions of Tun Dr Mahathir who purposely created stories about the debts of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), as though the company had not contributed to the nation.
"He said the 1MDB lost RM42 billion, later he said it was RM27 billion. Now that the issue has been answered, he has gone quiet. But through the 1MDB, every year, 1,200 imam and village heads are able to perform the haj. It has done some good. If there are weaknesses, if there are faults, please correct them," he said.
Najib also challenged the former prime minister to sue writer Barry Wain who wrote the book 'Malaysian Maverick: Mahathir Mohamad in Turbulent Times' on the discrepancies during his 22-year rule.
"There were more issues during the time of Dr Mahathir. The IPP (independent power producer issue, the toll issue, the privatisation of Malaysia Airlines, Perwaja, Forex. I know the issues.
"In his (Wain's) book, there was a RM100 billion leak. If it is not true, sue Barry Wain. When it comes to me, (he) will ask me to sue. When it is him, he does not sue," he said.
Najib also challenged Dr Mahathir, as Chairman of the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) to hold a convention for his new party, to see the number of delegates to fill the halls like at the UMNO General Assembly.
