The Selangor Palace had warned Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to not confuse the people in the Selangor Menteri Besar issue.
The Selangor ruler's private secretary Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani denied claims by Anwar that PKR was only following UMNO who submitted only one name to the palace for the MB position since 1957.
In a press statement, Mohamad Munir said Anwar's statement was inaccurate and misleading.
On Sept 9, PKR had apologised to the Selangor Sultan for submitting only the name of its president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to be considered for the MB post.
However, he defended the move, saying that the practice of submitting one name as the Menteri Besar candidate was followed since the country achieved independence in 1957.
"Our party will apologise to Duli Yang Maha Mulia Tuanku Sultan if our decision which conforms with the Selangor state constitution and convention since 1957 hurt his feelings," Anwar said.
According to Mohamad Munir, during UMNO's rule, several names have been submitted to the Sultan to be considered for the state MB post.
He said Anwar should also stop issuing statement that could mislead the people or taint the name of the Ruler.
