Barisan Nasional (BN) must not depend on the weakness of the opposition in order to maintain control in Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar parliamentary seats, said Khairy Jamaluddin.
Instead, the UMNO Youth chief said, BN must win the two by-elections on June 18 by relying on its own strength.
“We will not be bothered about who our opponents will be or who will campaign for them.
“I believe if we focus on the campaign machinery to convince the people towards BN, we can gain victory,” he said after chairing an UMNO Youth meeting at Menara Dato Onn, Putra World Trade Centre, here.
"We always adhere to the UMNO Youth principle of contesting and winning on our own strength and not depending on the weakness of our political adversary.
"We are prepared to face any scenario in the two by-elections but will not dance to the tune of the opposition," he added.
Khairy at the same time stressed that Umno Youth is adamant in giving full support to whoever are elected as the candidates in the two parliamentary constituencies.
Even though they have highlighted certain names, it is ultimately up to the leadership to decide and UMNO Youth will uphold is responsibility to help in winning the candidates.
The Kuala Kangsar by-election is held following the death of its Member of Parliament (MP) Datuk Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad in a helicopter crash in Sebuyau, Sarawak, last May 5.
Also killed in the tragedy was Sungai Besar MP Datuk Noriah Kasnon who is also Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities.
The Election Commission has set for the two by-elections in Selangor and Perak to be held simultaneously on June 18, and nomination on June 5.
