It was a double loss for DAP’s Batu Kawah incumbent Christina Chiew Wang See after she conceded defeat to Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk Dr Sim Hui Kian in the Sarawak polls today.
Earlier today, several media reported that Chiew had unfortunately suffered a miscarriage.
Speaking to Malaysiakini, Chiew had said she saw the majority lead by Dr Sim and figured that "it is too big to cover", so she conceded defeat.
She attributed her defeat to the poor voter turnout, particularly the young voters.
She reportedly said the young voter turnout was only 50 percent and that "works against us".
According to DAP national adviser Lim Kit Siang in his Twitter earlier today, Chiew's miscarriage was due to her election campaign efforts in Batu Kawah constituency.

Just visited Christina Chiew at Normah Medical Centre, Kuching. Consoled her for her miscarriage as result of Bukit Kawah election campaign.

Dr Sim, meanwhile, wished Chiew a speedy recovery. Speaking to reporters at SMK Bandar Kuching No 1 earlier today, the SUPP chief advised Chiew that her life was more important than politics, New Straits Times reported.
"If I were her, I would not die for politics," he was quoted as saying.
The 11th Sarawak state polls, which concluded today, saw BN retaining power in the Land of the Hornbills after winning a two-third majority.
