Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today pledged that he will continue to assist Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak no matter what the situation is.
He also called on the people, particularly the residents in the Bagan Datoh parliamentary constituency, to pray that the relationship between him and the prime minister would continue to be everlasting.
"I call on the people of Bagan Datoh to pray that my relationship with Najib will continue to be everlasting as the number one and two leaders, a friend and as brothers," he said in a speech at a special gathering with community leaders in the Bagan Datoh parliamentary constituency at Wisma Bagan Datoh, here.
At the gathering, about 500 local community leaders and members of the Barisan Nasional (BN) component party were present.
Ahmad Zahid said he had worked with Najib ever since Oct 1 1987 as the political secretary when the prime minister was at that time the Minister of Youth and Sports before becoming Defence Minister.
"Then, I continued to work in the corporate sector, but then I still continued to assist him (Najib) from outside," he said.
As such, Ahmad Zahid who is also the Member of Parliament for Bagan Datoh, called on certain groups to stop the slander against him including the distribution of the poison pen letter claiming that he purportedly urged Najib to resign as this would only be a waste of time.
Ahmad Zahid pointed out that throughout his political career, he had never toppled anyone and this principle had enabled him to remain as the Member of Parliament and UMNO division head for Bagan Datoh.
"It is not my type to topple anyone including the prime minister, that is why in Bagan Datoh I am safe right from 1985 until now and no one challenges me," he added. -- BERNAMA
