DAP candidate in the Teluk Intan by-election, Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud, has refused to answer to the oft-repeated question from the media on her stand on hudud.
Bombarded with the same question today, the 27-year-old said: "What do you expect? I've already made my statement on hudud and I want to talk about other issues. Now we are only focusing on winning the by-election," she told a media conference at the DAP main operations centre in Bandar Baru Teluk Intan here Thursday.
PAS' Kuala Terengganu MP Datuk Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah Raja Ahmad, who was brought along to the press conference, said the proposed implementation of hudud in Kelantan was being held back to study the mechanism.
"We are quite open to have further evaluation, because it (hudud) has to be properly structured and applied in the right context.
"We are not in a hurry to propose it because in Islam, there is no compulsion. It is better to be extra careful rather than rushing something that may not quite be ready yet. We are not rushing, but the principle stands," he said.
Meanwhile, Dyana Sofya, who raised issues on women, also brought along the Association of Perak Women for Women (PWW) president Dr Sharifah Halimah Jaafar to assist in explaining the message she wanted to get across at the news conference.
The Teluk Intan by-election on May 31 will see a straight contest between Dyana Sofya and Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk Mah Siew Keong, who is also Gerakan president.
