EC to meet on April 10 to discuss Rompin by-election
The Rompin by-election will be called after the EC declares the seat's vacancy following the death of its incumbent, Tan Sri Jamaluddin Jarjis.
The Election Commission (EC) will hold a special meeting on Friday to discuss the Rompin parliamentary by-election, following the death of incumbent Tan Sri Dr Jamaluddin Jarjis.
EC secretary Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh, in a statement today, said the meeting to be chaired by EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof, would be held at the commission's headquarters in Menara SPR here.
He said the EC was officially notified by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia that the seat was vacant.
The meeting would discuss important issues such as the seat's vacancy date, nomination day, early polling day, polling day and voter lists to be used as well as preparations to conduct the by-election.

Jamaluddin was killed in a helicopter crash in Semenyih last Saturday, along with five other people - principal private secretary to the prime minister, Datuk Azlin Alias; businessman Datuk Tan Huat Seang; Jamaluddin's bodyguard Razakan B Seran; pilot Clifford William Fournier Jr and operations assistant Aidana Baizieva.
During the 13th General Election in May 2013, Jamaluddin, who was the chairman of the Housing Rakyat 1Malaysia (PR1MA), retained the Rompin seat he had held for 23 years by beating former PAS Wanita chief Mohd Salleh Nuridah by a 15,114-vote majority.
