EC's redelineation: About 13,000 voters will move out from Gelang Patah to Kulai

The Election Commission recommended redelineation of electoral boundaries is expected to see about 13,000 voters move out of the Gelang Patah Parliamentary constituency to the Kulai Parliamentary seat.

Gelang Patah MCA Division deputy chairman Tan Ba Ba said the recommended redelineation would involve five polling district centres, namely Sri Pulai, Ulu Choh, Bandar Ulu Choh, Teratai and Pulai.

"EC should reconsider maintaining the boundary seats such as during the 13th general election (GE13) as we (Barisan Nasional and MCA) have been focusing fully on these polling district centres before this," he told reporters here today.

Tan, who is also Gelang Patah Parliamentary constituency MCA elections director, said MCA would submit an objection to the EC soon.

"We have not been given adequate notice to improve efforts in the affected polling district centres and the new ones. We should have been given at least a year to one year and a half for us to concentrate on these areas," he said.

The recommended redelineation of the electoral boundary will see the number of voters decreasing to about 112,000 voters from about 115,000 voters in the GE13.

Out of the total voters, 53.87 per cent comprised Chinese voters, followed by Malays at 33.48 per cent while the rest are Indians and others.

In the GE13, the Gelang Patah Parliamentary seat was won by DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang after he defeated Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman, who was then the Johor BN chairman with a majority of 14,762 votes.
