MIC is confident it can help win the hearts of voters in the upcoming by-elections in Kuala Kangsar, Perak, and Sungai Besar, Selangor, next month, according to its deputy president, Datuk Seri S.K Devamany.

He said the party had identified 60 per cent of Indian voters in both constituencies and delved into the problems they were facing.

"Some leaders at the grassroots level have already gone to the Indian voters and identified their problems, such as those pertaining to temples, street drains, water puddles, and garbage," he told Bernama Monday.

Devamany, who is also the Perak State Assembly Speaker said MIC's leadership did not only go down to the ground when there was a by-election, but was continuously approaching and trying to solve the problems of the Indian community.

He added that MIC would also inform voters in the two constituencies of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's contribution throughout his tenure, especially in improving the living standards of the Indian community.

The Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar by-elections were necessitated as their respective incumbents, Datuk Noriah Kasnon, who was also plantation industries and commodities deputy minister, and Datuk Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad, who was also Malaysian Palm Oil Board chairman, were killed in a helicopter crash in Sebuyau, Sarawak on May 5.
