Tan Sri Annuar Musa believes the support of Chinese voters for the Barisan Nasional (BN) during the recent Sarawak state election can be repeated at the Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar by-elections.
The UMNO information chief said the Chinese community appreciated the efforts of the government since the 13th general election in ensuring the stability and economic growth of the nation.
"I do not see why the Chinese community will not give their support to BN.
"I predict the indicator in Sarawak will happen in Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar, the Chinese community will give more votes (to BN) compared to the 13th general election," he told reporters after visiting the Communications and Multimedia Ministry media centre here yesterday.
He said BN respected the decision made by the voters, especially the Chinese and Indian communities in the last general election and had learnt from every issue that was brought up.
Annuar admitted that BN was not perfect and was in the process of improving itself.
However, he said, BN through its candidate in Sungai Besar, Budiman Mohd Zohdi and in Kuala Kangsar, Mastura Mohd Yazid will look after the welfare of all strata of people regardless of race.
"From the beginning, BN's existence was to look after all races...at these elections, our candidates can give attention to all that is troubling the Chinese community," he said.
As such, he urged Chinese and Indian voters in both parliamentary constituencies to continue supporting BN to allow the party to help realise their aspirations.
