MARANG: Terengganu UMNO has decided to contest all Parliamentary and State Assembly (DUN) seats in the next general election (GE), thus not giving an easy path to Bersatu or PAS.
Its chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Said said it simultaneously reject cooperation with Bersatu and PAS in the state.
Ahmad, who is also the Kijal State Assemblyman, said the party was also optimistic about reclaiming the seats it lost in the last general election.
"God willing, we will win again. We lost the previous one obviously because of our candidates.
"We lost only with 4 votes, 55 votes, not a big 300 votes.
"No way, enough is enough," said Ahmad.
The former Terengganu Menteri Besar's statement was not the first time because Ahmad has several times issued a statement that UMNO will contest all Parliamentary and DUN seats in the state in GE15.
"I had to declare (this) as PAS exco Hanafiah (Mat) had mentioned in Kemaman that PAS would defend 22 out of 30 (DUN) seats, then the Menteri Besar mentioned in Dungun that PAS would defend six out of eight parliamentary seats.
"So, what's left (for us) ... it means there is no choice, we will contest in all (seats)," said Ahmad.
Terengganu has eight parliamentary seats with six of them won by PAS, namely Marang, Kuala Terengganu, Setiu, Kuala Nerus, Dungun and Kemaman.
UMNO won two seats, Besut and Hulu Terengganu, but the Hulu Terengganu seat later changed hands to Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) after Datuk Rosol Wahid quit the party and joined Bersatu.
For DUN seats, PAS won 22 seats while BN won 10 seats in GE14.
