Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi wants UMNO leaders, especially in Selangor, to expose the weaknesses in the setting up of the Darul Ehsan Investment Group (DEIG) for the sake of the people of Selangor.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also UMNO vice-president, said various quarters had raised doubts over the setting up of the DEIG and Selangor UMNO had been entrusted to find concrete evidence on the allegation that the DEIG had taken over the role of Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI) in managing all investments of companies under the MBI.
"We have to prove how DEIG has been misused for the political benefit of the state government.
"We must expose the weaknesses and disadvantages of the DEIG. Do not be afraid to do it for the sake of the people of Selangor," he said at the Puchong UMNO delegates' meeting at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (Maeps), Monday.
Prior to this, several Selangor state assemblymen, including former Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, had also expressed their concern over the transparency in the setting up the DEIG, which will take over the role of MBI.
However, Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali in clarifying the issue said that the DEIG, which is wholly-owned by MBI was set up last December to focus only on MBI's investments, assets and businesses.
