Former senator, Datuk Mohamad Ezam Mohd Nor on Sunday announced his resignation from UMNO, making it the second time for him to do so.
The announcement, made on his personal Facebook and Twitter accounts, said he made the decision to defend his quest and struggle for change.
Mohamad Ezam recently quit his senatorship, triggering speculations that he would return to PKR to strengthen Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail's position as the party's number one.
The 49-year-old politician, however, denied the speculations.
He left his service at the Finance Ministry as communication director effective April 1, 2016, well before his contract ended. His contract was supposed to end next year.
Mohamad Ezam initially left PKR in 2007 after announcing he had lost faith in the leadership of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Mohamad Ezam was previously Anwar's right hand man.
Mohamad Ezam then rejoined UMNO in 2008.
